Christchurch Symphony Orchestra
New Zealand

Composed in 1918, Stravinksy's The Soldier's Tale is based on a Russian folk tale about a soldier who makes a deal with the devil, trading his fiddle for a book that predicts the future.

Exploring themes of greed, avarice and power, The Soldier's Tale is as relevant today as when it was first composed.

Originally composed for seven instruments; clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, violin, double bass and percussion, with three
actors and a dancer; for this performance, the orchestra will perform alongside some of the city's leading contemporary performing artists.
